Mostly Good News for Local Ballot Measures

Most of the focus has been on the results of last week’s presidential election, so you might have missed the results of state and local ballot measures that could be consequential. Transform endorsed several state and local measures that will move forward our agenda for transit and housing equity and climate resilience. It wasn’t all good news, especially at the state level, but there is still a lot to celebrate, including the climate bond, open space in San Francisco, and affordable housing and transportation wins in much of the Bay Area.

 
 
 

Transformers Join Joyful Safe Routes Gathering

Two Transform staff members, Program Director Stephanie Jim and Program Manager Sheila Islam, were among the over 400 Safe Routes to School practitioners, transportation professionals, safety advocates, and community development leaders who attended the 2024 Safe Routes National Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado, in October. There was a palpable sense of positivity, from the conference theme of Safe, Healthy, and JOYful: The Possibilities of our Movement, to the reception held at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, to the invitation to partake in whimsical activities, such as the challenge to find tiny plastic ducks hidden all over the conference building. 

 

Youth Task Force Motivated by Climate and Street Safety

The high school students who volunteer for the Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) Youth Task Force care a lot about safety and the environment. We recently asked them about why they joined the Youth Task Force and how their attitudes about active transportation have changed since they were in elementary school. They shared how walking, rolling, and taking transit shape their view of the world.

 
 

Join Transform: Admin Assistant Job Opening — P/T, Temp

We are seeking a temporary, part-time Administrative Assistant to support our organization. This role will help streamline our operations through administrative support to the Operations, Finance, and Management teams, and the Transform Board. The Temporary Administrative Assistant will be expected to work Tuesday and Wednesday from our office in Oakland. This role is currently intended to be temporary, beginning in November and ending in February. If there is an opportunity to support this role permanently, the Temporary Administrative Assistant will be encouraged to apply.
