Oakland's Automated Speed Enforcement Program
Thanks to a bill Transform helped pass, Oakland will soon have a network of cameras to detect and ticket speeding cars on Oakland streets. The cameras will be placed on the city's high-injury network. Transform Board Member Warren Logan went in-depth with KTVU to explain the program, address privacy concerns, and describe the potential impacts on street safety.
Of course, speed cameras are just one tool for reducing traffic violence. Early data from speed cameras installed in San Francisco show thousands of drivers exceeding safe speeds on city streets; we need traffic calming and better biking, walking, and transit infrastructure to shift our shared streets from speedways to safe, human-scale spaces. That's why Transform continues to fight for more funding for the Active Transportation Program, which helps communities complete biking and walking improvements.

Legislative Update at the Midpoint
The 2025 legislative session got off to a chaotic start. At the midpoint, we’ve moved bills from our watch list to support and oppose positions. Most of the bills we support are moving forward, as is one of the bills we're opposing. Hang on; it’s a bumpy ride.

Take Action: Wider Highways Aren't the Solution
We have a critical opportunity to voice our opposition to building new highways. On June 26, the California Transportation Commission will hold a hearing to grant funding to Caltrans to expand State Route 37 — a stretch of highway that will be underwater in a few years.
We might as well throw our state transportation dollars into the bay.
We've set up an action to make it easy for you to email the CTC commissioners and voice your opposition to building new highway lanes. It doesn't solve congestion, and it worsens climate change. No new highways!

Transform Opposes ICE Raids
Transform unequivocally stands against the violence, deportations, and arrests perpetrated by the Trump regime. These senseless and destructive actions are designed to divide and disorient us and erode the very systems that allow people to build power together and speak up for change. This is the latest chapter in a long history in the U.S. of using state violence to police Black and Brown people, limiting their voices and access to public space. For generations, immigrant communities and other communities of color have faced disinvestment, displacement, and criminalization, undermining their ability to thrive.
Transform’s vision is built upon the idea that everyone should be able to safely move through public spaces and participate in civil society.

Pride Month: Celebration and Resistance
This Pride Month, we’re holding two truths at once.
We celebrate the beauty, brilliance, and resilience of LGBTQIA+ people in the Bay Area and beyond. And we recognize that this celebration happens in the shadow of growing attacks on queer and trans lives across the country — from bans on gender-affirming care to efforts to erase queer history, culture, and community.

Queer Contributions to Bay Area Advocacy
Pride Month is extra poignant this year as queer and trans communities are under attack from the new regime in Washington. So it’s a good time to lift up some of the LGBTQIA+ community members who have worked toward housing and transportation equity in the Bay Area, including Harvey Milk, Roma Guy, and Cortney Brousseau.

Happy Juneteenth!
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free enslaved people in the westernmost secessionist state. On Juneteenth, we celebrate the people who fought for freedom for all African Americans before and during the Civil War, and in the freedom struggles that continue to this day. This celebration is happening at a time when there are growing attacks on the civil and human rights of African Americans, making it even more important for us to reaffirm the importance of African Americans to our history and this nation.
The City of Richmond has proudly celebrated Juneteenth for 40 years, and Transform is thrilled to be joining the community again this year at the Richmond Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21. We’ll be talking with residents about climate-friendly transportation resources like Marin Community Energy’s EV Instant Rebate and the California E-Bike Incentive Program. Come by our table and say hello!

You're Invited: Lobby Day on June 24 in Sacramento
On June 24, 2025, Bay Area Forward, a labor and advocacy coalition formed to save Bay Area transit, of which Transform is a member, will hold a press event and lobby day in Sacramento.
Funding from the 2026 regional ballot measure must fully account for budgetary shortfalls in public transit. We know the most effective way to achieve this is through a gross receipts tax that provides stable, sustainable funding for Bay Area transit operations.
June 24, 2025, we will ask our state legislators directly: Will they increase costs on working-class and low-income families through a sales tax, or fully fund public transit in the Bay by having major businesses pay their fair share?
