How does a complex region like the Bay Area come together to tackle our biggest challenges in an inclusive way? Deep collaboration is necessary to improve transportation in the region, and learning from the past can help us succeed in the future.
The Bay Area did this recently with CASA, the Committee to House the Bay Area. CASA was an 18-month process convened by MTC in 2017-18 that brought together advocates, philanthropy, government, business, and labor from across the region. The group built consensus around recommendations that were developed into a legislative package to help tackle the housing affordability crisis.
What lessons from CASA can inform regional collaboration on transportation and other issues? How should the Bay Area develop a regional ballot measure to fund a multimodal transportation network that works better for people and the planet?
